Training of members of the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy within the campaign “Life is in your hands”

The arrival of the winter months and snowfall fails to slow down the activities of members and associates of the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy. As part of the “Life is in Your Hands” campaign, which is slowly “heating up” in the Serbian Red Cross, members of the Laboratory together with Sports Medicine residents attended the first training course to obtain an instructor certificate in the field of training the sports experts in the first aid in a situation of sudden cardiac arrest.

Numerous unfortunate events of sudden cardiac arrest at sports events, both among athletes and spectators, which became more frequent during the COVID 19 pandemic, encouraged the development of the campaign “Life is in your hands” by joint efforts and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, Olympic Committee Of Serbia and the Serbian Red Cross. Campagne provides training for sports professionals (coaches and therapists), in providing the first aid in situations of sudden cardiac arrest. It is planned that the campaign includes as many sports federations and societies in Serbia, in cooperation with prominent Serbian athletes.

In addition to members of the Serbian Red Cross, the training will be conducted by trained doctors – instructors of various specialties (specialists in Sports Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine, etc.). The training of doctors – instructors began with a course organized in the Serbian Red Cross on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021., which was successfully mastered by the youngest members of the Laboratory. With a collage of photos, we will try to evoke a part of the very positive atmosphere at the mentioned course.

The next training course for doctors – instructors is planned for Saturday, December 25th, 2021. in the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy in Višegradska 26.

We hope that the new chapter in the long-standing cooperation between the Department of Sports Medicine (and the Center of Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, the Olympic Committee of Serbia, and the Serbian Red Cross will contribute to an increased number of positive outcomes during sudden cardiac arrest at sports events. Through this teamwork, we want to create a safe environment for athletes, sports experts, and their loyal companions and fans.
