With great pride, the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy emphasizes the successful closure of the first doctorate in the module of doctoral academic studies – Applied research in medicine, sport and motor skills. Dr. Slavica Đordjević – Šaranovic, a specialist in pneumophthisiology, attended the public defense of the doctorate entitled “Adaptation of the respiratory system in elite athletes in relation to the type of sport and the connection with the consumption of tobacco products.” The mentor at the dissertation was the head of our Department, prof. Dr. Sanja Mazić. The public defense of the doctorate was held on Thursday, December 23, 2021. at 1 pm in the ceremonial hall of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade in front of the Commission members: Prof. Dušan Mitrović, Prof. dr Vesna Bjegović – Mikanović and Prof. Dr. Zvezdan Milanović.
Dr. Slavica Đordjević – Šaranović has been successfully working with our most trophy-winning athletes for many years, as one of the permanently employed members of the professional team of the Institute for Sports and Sports Medicine of the Republic of Serbia. She has dedicated her brilliant and long career to the work and preparation of numerous national team members and athletes, that are competing nationally and internationally. Due to her expertise and cheerful spirit, she is very popular among our athletes. Dr. Đordjević – Šaranović, also belongs to the generation of doctoral students who were the first to enroll in the module of doctoral academic studies – Applied research in medicine, sport and motor skills. Dr. Šaranović chose a unique and specific group of elite athletes for the topic of her doctoral dissertation, and she is the first researcher in our country to examine the effect of tobacco smoke in this group in terms of sports results. The preparation and defense of the dissertation that deals with such a very current topic in the field of sports sciences represent one magnificent crown of the long career of Dr. Đordjević – Šaranović.
We hope that the positive example of Dr. Đordjević – Šaranović will serve as a support to all our doctoral students to achieve their goal and defend their doctoral dissertation within the set deadlines in this very challenging situation for all medical workers.
