Visit of prof. Pieter D’Hooghe to the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy – Visiting professor promotion at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade

On Friday, June 17th, 2022. CMO of Aspetar Clinic, Doha, Qatar, prof. Pieter D’Hooghe, visited the Center for Sports Medicine and Exercise Therapy, accompanied by his wife Valerie. Dr. D’Hooghe, together with our great friend and benefactor, Prof. Nebojš Popović, met the members and associates of our Center, discussed the activities we carry out in the medical and scientific area, but also all the future ideas that are being prepared in our Center, selflessly offering his help and great experience. Many hours of conversation between members of the Center with prof. D’Hooghe and prof. Popović, have additionally strengthened a fruitful collaboration that has been developing for years between our Center and the Aspetar Clinic. Ideas and suggestions mentioned by prof. D’Hooghe, will greatly help the further professional and scientific development, above all of our youngest associates.

We would like to remind that prof. D’Hooghe is an orthopedic surgeon, specialized in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the ankle, member of the ISAKOS committee (Association for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Sports Orthopedics), where he leads an international group of medical experts in the field of arthroscopic sports orthopedics. He is also a former elite athlete and FIFA instructor, senior orthopedic consultant for 7 football teams of the Champions League in Europe, and since 2017 also for FC Red Star in Belgrade. He is the current CMO of the Aspetar Clinic for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Doha, Qatar, which is one of the most prestigious institutions of this type in the world.

That is why it is a great honor for all members of our team, that after visiting our Center, prof. D’Hooghe held an introductory lecture on the topic: “There’s no such thing as simple ankle sprain in elite Sports” and thereby was promoted to the Visiting professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade. During the introductory lecture, prof. D’Hooghe shared his enormous experience in the field of treatment and prevention of ankle injuries with the numerous auditoria of the Dean’s Hall of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. This interactive lecture was accompanied by a very dynamic discussion, during which doctors from the fields of Sports Medicine, Orthopedics and Physical Medicine asked numerous questions and left this lecture knowing all the novelties in the area of ankle injury treatment.

We hope that in the near future, the Belgrade medical public will have more opportunities to learn from a great world-renowned expert like prof. D’Hooghe.

We are enormously thankful to you!
